WATERLOO MILLENNIUM GREEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Weekdays Tuesday 18 to Friday 28 June
Volunteers from the Trust for Urban Ecology (TRUE) and
Putting Down Roots (PDR) will be on site during this
period. You can come along and join in - please call
020 7633 9326 to confirm details. There's a volunteer
day for everyone on Saturday 22 June (10am-4pm). Come
along and get your hands dirty or just drop by and see
what is being done.

SERVICE OF PRAYER FOR ZIMBABWE
Tuesday 18 June
7pm at Southwark Cathedral
The Festival of Bernard Mizeki, Zimbabwe's first
Anglican Martyr, includes a sermon by Canon Chad
Gandiya (formerly of Harare) and music by the Zimbabwe
Christian Fellowship Choir. A Southwark-Zimbabwe Link

SOUTH OF THE RIVER: A "NO SOAP" OPERA ABOUT SOUTHWARK
20/21/22 June
7.30pm (matinee Sat 22 at 3.15pm); free T
Free tickets are still available for an opera about an
entrepreneur who wants to cash in on the regeneration
of Southwark by building a Southwark Theme Park.
However, Southwark's past and an eclectic mix of local
people conspire to destroy his plans.

SENSE AND THE CITY CONCERT AT SOUTHWARK STATION
Friday 21 June
5.45pm & 8pm; 40p platform ticket�or Travelcard
Site-specific music 'Line Up' commissioned and played
by the London Sinfonietta will resonate around Richard
MacCormac's Southwark Underground Station. The piece
consists of fanfares written for each of the stops on
the Jubilee Line. Experience the high space and
surprising church-like acoustic of Southwark
Underground's blue glass-clad concourse transformed by
fleeting orchestral sounds relayed via the public
address system, combined with live performances by
brass and woodwind instruments. Composer Fraser
Trainer, together with composers and sound engineers
Ian Dearden and David Sheppard, has created a work
which fits the majestic dimensions of the new station.

CONCERT: STANFORD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Saturday 22 June

The acclaimed Stanford Symphony Orchestra under their
conductor J Karla Lemon will be touring the UK
following a concert at Carnegie Hall, New York on June
18. The programme for their London concert at Southwark
Cathedral includes Ravel's jazz-influenced Piano
Concerto with Frederick Weldy, Copland's Buckaroo
Holiday, a new work by Chen Yi entitled "Momentum" and
Tchaikovsky's romantic Fifth Symphony.

LILIES ON THE LAND AT SOUTHWARK PLAYHOUSE
Sunday 23 June

A remarkable piece of theatre, celebrating an
extraordinary part of Britain's living history.
Inspired by and devised from over 140 letters received
from Land Girls all over the country by the Lions part
(the theatre group best know for their Twelfth Night,
May Day and Harvest revels on Bankside), Lilies on the
Land recounts the astonishing experiences of women who
signed up for the Women's Land Army during World War
II.
