Walkers can choose from two routes which converge at the groundling gates of Shakespeare's Globe. The first route starts at Westminster Abbey and takes in such sights as Middle Temple Hall and St Paul's Cathedral, while the second route begins in St Leonard's Churchyard, Shoreditch, and will pass the site of Shakespeare's first theatre, Monument and Southwark Cathedral. At the starting point, walkers are given a red rose and directions for their chosen route. This year Artistic Director Mark Rylance will start groups off on the Shoreditch walk. Along the way, a map and background notes will draw attention to sites of architectural and historical interest, while twelve actors in disguise emerge without warning from the crowds to entertain walkers with surprise recitals of Shakespeare's sonnets. The actor sonneteers have been so convincing in the past that one year, when one leaned over Blackfriars Bridge and bemoaned his lost love, the police were called to prevent what they thought was a suicide attempt! http://www.shakespeares-globe.org SPRING PLANT SALE Sunday 27 April 10.30am-5.30pm at the Museum of Garden History, Lambeth Palace Road; 2.50 Plants, including rare and unusual examples, for sale from leading specialist nurseries. http://www.museumgardenhistory.org STAGED READING OF 'TWELFTH NIGHT' AT THE ROSE THEATRE Sunday 27 April 3pm at the Rose Theatre Exhibition, 56 Park Street The Generator Theatre Company from Warwick will be returning to give a staged reading of 'Twelfth Night' Last year Generator gave an extremely moving version of Henry V at the Rose and Twelfth Night promises to be just as good.
