[ What's on this week ]

Our pick of this week's community and cultural events:

LONDON TO BRIGHTON VETERAN CAR RUN
Sunday 2 November
From approx 7.45am in Westminster Bridge Road
Lambeth residents are being encouraged to turn out and
cheer on competitors in the annual London to Brighton
veteran car run on . More than 400 vehicles will take
part in the 59-mile race, which passes along
Westminster Bridge Road The rally started in 1896 in
celebration of the Locomotives on Highways Act, which
raised the speed limit for "light locomotives" from
4mph to a racy 14mph. "It is a great spectacle and
always brings a smile to peoples faces. This is a
famous event in the motoring world and it would be
great for people to turn out and cheer the racers on,"
said Councillor Andrew Sawdon, Lambeth executive member
for transport. The race starts in Hyde Park at 7.30am
and should reach North Lambeth from around 7.45am.
