THAMESLINK 2000: BLACKFRIARS AND BOROUGH MARKET
Tuesday 13, Thursday 15 & Friday 16 July
This month Network Rail is holding as series of one-day
exhibitions to report the findings of the new
environmental statement in those areas most affected by
the proposed work and to provide an opportunity to see
the new planning applications for the station on the
southern side of Blackfriars Bridge and the replacement
buildings around the widened viaduct in the Borough
Market area.
Network Rail submitted a new planning application to
Southwark Council on Friday 25 June. The new buildings
would replace existing property on Stoney Street,
Borough High Street and at Green Dragon Court. These
buildings would need to be demolished to make way for
the controversial viaduct to expand capacity for
Thameslink 2000 services.

ELEFEST: FILM FESTIVAL AT THE ELEPHANT & CASTLE
Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 July

The second Elefest will feature some of the greatest
films ever made alongside locally produced work during
the free four-day festival at the Coronet in New Kent
Road. Elefest  aims to celebrate the vast cultural
diversity of the area with films from Nigeria,
Bangladesh, Colombia and Ireland. There will also be a
rare chance to see The Italian Job on the big screen
and the Charlie Chaplin classic Modern Times. Cult
classic Babylon will close the festival on Saturday
night. The festival will also show a wide spectrum of
locally produced work. It opens with three short films
made specifically for the festival by local people in
conjunction with the INTO Project. Local community
media experts Southwark TV will host an hour of local
work on Thursday.  Short films by people who live,
study or work in the area will start Friday night's
programme and a Rotherhithe-produced version of A
Midsummer's Night's Dream featuring the talents of
local children will be shown on Saturday.

ELEPHANT & CASTLE REGENERATION EXHIBITION

February. This is another opportunity to see the plans

20 YEARS OF CHANGE: SOUTH BANK & BANKSIDE EXHIBITION

To celebrate its 20th anniversary Coin Street Community
Builders is planning a series of events. The
centrepiece for these celebrations is the free 20 Years
of Change exhibition. Through pictures and words the
exhibition charts changes to the South Bank and
Bankside since 1984 - including the Coin Street
neighbourhood. Residents and those who have worked in
the area - including a policeman, a teacher, a vicar,
MP and people working in shops and cafes among others,
give an insight into how their lives, their jobs and
their neighbourhood has changed over the past two
decades.

SPANISH CIVIL WAR INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES MEMORIAL EVENT

A ceremony at the International Brigades Memorial in
Jubilee Gardens to honour the 2,100 British men and
women who fought side by side with Spaniards against
fascism during the 1936-39 civil war and remember the
526 who did not return. Chairman Jack Jones introduces
speakers Ana Perez (president of the Amigos, Madrid),
American veteran Moe Fishman and singer Liz Shirley.

RHYTHM PARTY AT THE SE ONE CLUB: FOR 13-17 YEAR OLDS

London's first weekly nightclub experience for 13-17
year olds. Young clubbers get the chance to experience
all the surroundings of an over 18s club with roomy

drum'n'bass, catering for most music tastes all under
