Wednesday 25 January
7.45pm at the Time & Talents Centre, The Old Mortuary, St
Marychurch Street, Rotherhithe SE16; small charge for
non-members
Map: http://quicklink.se1direct.co.uk/?id=1091
Talk by Doug Killock of Pre-Construct Archaeology which
conducted the year-long excavations at Tabard Square which
revealed buildings including a religious temple precinct
the first to be found in Roman London. In October 2002 a
rare Roman marble inscription was found making reference to
"Londoniensi" - the Latin name for the people of London. As
there are very few Roman items including the whole of the
word 'London', this is an extremely important find. A
Rotherhithe & Bermondsey Local History Group event.
