ANDREW MOTION & TERRY JONES AT SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL FOR 
JOHN GOWER CHORAL EVENSONG
Monday 14 July
5.30pm at Southwark Cathedral,  London Bridge
To mark the 600th anniversary of the death of John Gower
there will be a special service of Choral Evensong sung by
the Girls and Gentlemen of the Cathedral Choir. Prayers will
be said at Gower's tomb in the nave of the Cathedral. The
service will be followed by readings of work by Gower, and
others, in the presence of Andrew Motion, Poet Laureate, and
Terry Jones (formerly of Monty Python). John Gower, an early
poet laureate and a friend of Chaucer, lived with the monks
at what is now Southwark Cathedral.

Resident Jack Thurston's 45-minute 2005 film celebrates the
history of a hidden corner of London that is cherished by
anyone who knows it. With introduction by the director.

JUNKANOO AT THE SCOOP - NEW YEAR TRADITION FROM BAHAMAS
Thursday 17 July
6.30pm at The Scoop,  More London Riverside; free
Junkanoo in The Bahamas is staged in the early hours of 26
December and again in the early hours of 1 January, New
Year's Day. The parade, or "rush out" is characterised by
colourful costumes and a rhythmic blending of goatskin
drums, cow bells, horns fill the air as the Junkanoo groups,
comprising sometimes dozens of even hundreds of members,
compete for not just the kudos of winning but also a cash
prize to help fund its costumes for the following year.

TOUR GUIDING FESTIVAL - FREE GUIDED WALKS IN SOUTHWARK
Friday 18 July
11am-4pm at Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge; free
Free guided walks delivered by tour guiding students from
Greenwich Community College. The students invite you to
attend one of the three themed tours departing regularly
from Southwark Cathedral throughout the day. You give your
opinion of the tour and help decide which student wins a
prize. No need to book, just turn up and join a tour.

FRIDAY FUN IN THE PARK AT MINT STREET
Friday 18 July
3.30pm-8.30pm  at Mint Street Park, Southwark Br Rd; free
Event organised by Blackfriars Settlement and Bankside Open
Spaces Trust to bring local residents and businesses
together. Local councillor surgery - a chance to have your
say, live music stage, check the decks - be a DJ, join in
5-a-side football, local information stands, children's art
drama and music activities, bouncy castle, food and other
stalls, tea tent, plants stall and photography competition.

ROSE THEATRE: NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGY WEEK OPEN DAYS
Saturday 19 to Sunday 20 July
11am-6pm at Rose Theatre Exhibition, 56 Park Street
Visit the site of Bankside's first playhouse. The Rose video
with commentary by Ian McKellen will be shown hourly
throughout the day. Guides will be available and the
souvenir shop open. On both days at 5pm there will be a talk
by Simon Blatherwick, the archaeologist who helped unearth
the Rose in 1989.

OPEN DAY AT COIN STREET NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE

An afternoon of entertainment and activities by the local

street dance demonstrations, performances by Sing SE1 choir,
an exhibition showing work created by local people at the
centre, workshops for all ages and activities for families

UNICORN YOUTH THEATRE IN THE PAVILION AT POTTERS FIELDS

12.30pm & 3pm at Potters Fields Park,  Tooley Street; free
Promenade performance by Unicorn Youth Theatre. The Unicorn
Youth Theatre is a year-round Unicorn outreach programme for
young people aged 10-16, living in Southwark or Tower
Hamlets. This outdoor performance is the end-of-term
performance for the Youth Theatre, especially created by the
young artists as a part of the London-wide Portavilions
project.

COLOMBIANAMENTE - COLOMBIA COMES TO THE SOUTH BANK

Musicians, actors, circus performers, dancers, marching
bands and visual artists plus craft, food and drink stalls
bring a unique and amazing display of the sights and sounds
of Colombia to the South Bank. This event allows Londoners
to explore the richness and variety of Colombian culture and
aims to help end the often stereotypical representations of
Colombia. Family creative workshops culminate in a colourful
and vibrant procession. Part of the Coin Street Festival.
