ARCHAEOLOGY OF REIGATE STONE

The winter season of popular monthly Southwark &
Lambeth Archaeological Society talks opens with Paul
Sowan telling the story of Reigate stone from
"underground quarries to standing buildings".


THE MET'S POSITIVE ACTION TEAM COMES TO THE ELEPHANT
Thursday 26 September
Ground floor, Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre
Personnel Officer Dionne Peppiatt is one of the Met's
new Positive Action Officers, whose aim is to attract
more people to join from under represented groups. 
She said: "We are using this event as a re-launch of
Southwark's Positive Action Recruitment efforts.
Southwark is one of the most diverse areas of London
and we are here to tell local people about the career
opportunities both as a police officer or as a member
of civil staff. Officers from the non-uniform Positive
Action team will be joined by local uniformed officers
and a member of the dogs section. Team members will be
handing out publicity material and mingling with
shoppers.

DRAWING COURSE (2D>>>3D) AT TATE MODERN
Saturday 28 September, Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 October
10.30am-4pm; Attendance is necessary at all three
sessions; McAulay Studios, Tate Modern, Bankside; free
(open to 15-23 year olds only)
Raw Canvas presents a special drawing course exploring
the relationship between 2D drawing and 3D . This
three-session course will explore the different ways in
which we create space, led by Raw Canvas peers
and featuring  special guest, Will Alsop, architect of
the Peckham Library (and the forthcoming Palestra in
Blackfriars Road), and Chair of the Architecture
Foundation.  No astounding drawing skills are
necessary! Spaces for this rare opportunity are limited
so book in advance.

LAMBETH ARCHIVES OPEN DAY: MADE IN LAMBETH
Saturday 28 September
10am-5pm at Lambeth Archives,Knatchbull Road SE5; free
Annual Lambeth Archives open day with talks and
opportunity to see old prints of Lambeth and Waterloo.

WATERLOO COMMUNITY REGNERATION TRUST CONFERENCE
Saturday 28 Septmeber
11am-4pm at Living Space, the new building on Waterloo
Millennium Green
Waterloo Community Regeneration Trust was set up in
2001 to ensure that people living in Waterloo benefited
from government money that has been provided to improve
Waterloo over the next 5 years. A Community Conference
has been organised for all interested community groups
and individuals who would be interested in finding out
what WCRT has been up to over the past year, how to
access funds for community projects and contributing to
a community strategy that will help shape the
development of Waterloo in the future.
