Southwark Cathedral; 7pm; £12 (listeners £6)
Cathedral Director of Music Peter Wright conducts a
Come and Sing performance Handel's Messiah. No audition
needed to join in. Registration takes place from 6pm.

Thursday 8 November
Calder Bookshop, 51 The Cut; 6.30pm; £3 (conc £1)
Inaugural session of a new way of presenting poetry as
an innovative and popular art that can speak to
everyone. Two poets and an actor invite audience

Thursday 8 November
St George's Cathedral; 7.30pm; free
Recital by famous Russian pianist. Open forum with
pianist from 6.30pm.

Private fireworks display in the Pool of London near
Tower Bridge, visible at

Old Operating Theatre; 2.30pm; £3.25 (conc £2.25)
Dr David Wilkinson of the Association of Anaesthetists
on the Quest for Painless Surgery. Traces medicine¹s
struggle to overcome the trauma of surgery. Special
event for National Anaesthesia Day

Saturday 10 November
Old Operating Theatre; 1-5pm; £5 in advance
Alan Williams draws on his experience as a practitioner
for this hands-on herbal first aid. Learn about the
many herbs which can be used to heal burns and relieve

Saturday 10 November
5pm; between Blackfriars and Waterloo Bridges
Oxo Tower Wharf shops open until 8pm. You can see the
fireworks online at

St John's Waterloo; 10.30am 
Annual Remembrance Service for war dead. Includes the 2
minutes silence.

Sunday 11 November
St John's Waterloo; 6.30pm; £7 on the door
Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra plays Suite: Things to
Come by Arthur Bliss, Adagio for Strings by Samuel
Barber, Theme from Schindler's List by John Williams
and more.

Monday 12 November
Elephant and Castle Shoppping Centre
A massive 9' square screen will show information about
nine Southwark Council services ranging from Early
Years and Childcare, Environmental Services and Trading
Standards through to Community Safety, Planning and
Regeneration. Fostering and Adoption are also taking
part in the project as are Elephant Links. Other
organisations taking part in the Roadshow include
Southwark Health Authority and primary care groups,
Morley College, St John Ambulance and HMS President,
Royal Naval Reserves.
