BANKSIDE INFORMATION DAY
Friday 20 September
11am-6.30pm; free
Annual information sharing day in Southwark Cathedral
Churchyard. Stalls from local organisations,
refreshments, talks and guided walks. Members of the
'in SE1' team will be there, so make sure you drop by
and say hello to them.

LONDON OPEN HOUSE
Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September
SE1 has 30 buildings opening for Open House weekend.
This offers the first chance to explore London�s Living
Room at the new riverside City Hall. Other
opportunities include the Hop Exchange in Southwark
Street built in 1866 for the trading of malt and hops;
Swan Mead, a former leather tannery which has become a
home and gallery belonging to artist Kitty North and
the Old Vic Theatre. On Saturday there will be tours of
Lambeth Palace and St George's Cathedral.  
Saturday is also Southwark Churches Open Day and St
John's Waterloo is opening its vault and serving teas.
Admission to all buildings is free including The Old
Operating Theatre in St Thomas Street, which usually
charges admission. Use the search facility on the

CHARTERHOUSE-IN-SOUTHWARK SPONSORED HISTORICAL WALK
Saturday 21 September
Meet at Charterhouse-in-Southwark, Tabard Street from
10am
An historical sponsored walk open to people of all ages
and abilities to raise funds for the community charity.
Along the route - from Borough High Street to
Rotherhithe - walkers will have an historical
questionnaire to complete, of the places along the way.
It is a chance for people to stretch their legs and
take in an ancient and interesting part of London and
all for a good cause. For details and sponsorship packs

ARCHBISHOPS PARK FUN DAY
Saturday 21 September
10am-12noon Football Tournament for 6-16 year olds
2-5pm cakes, bouncy castle etc.
After two years work and campaigning �35,000 has been
raised by the Friends of Archbishops Park for a
management plan - come and learn more about their plans
for this important SE1 green space.
Local gardening project Roots and Shoots will lead a
nature walk.

FUN ON THE MILLENNIUM GREEN
Saturday 21 September
12-8pm at the Millennium Green, Waterloo Road; free
Formal opening of the Millennium Green, Blackfriars
Adventure Playground and the new South Bank Youth
Resource Centre. Stalls, drummers, dancers, face
painting, DJs and refreshments available as well as
play and sports events and a chance to have a look
around the new building.

IN TOWN WITHOUT MY CAR - CAR-FREE DAY
Sunday 22 September
2-6pm; free
Tower Bridge will be closed to motor traffic from
Tooley Street to Tower Hill. Celebratory events and
activities will take place across the bridge, and up to
the front of City Hall on the southern side.

DANIEL KITSON AT THE NEW WATERLOO COMEDY CLUB
Sunday 22 September
8.30pm (doors open 7.45pm); The Florence Nightingale,
199 Westminster Bridge Road; �6 (conc �5)
Locals Ivor Dembina and Jez Feeney are opening a new
live comedy venue in SE1 this month. Jez and Ivor
already run the successful Brixton Comedy Club in south
London and now they're bringing their expertise 
to Waterloo.  The first two shows are on Sunday nights
and then, in October, they move to Fridays. The opening
night on Sunday should be a corker because it 
features this year's Perrier Award winner, stand-up
comedian Daniel Kitson.
