LONDON BRIDGE TOWER: RENZO PIANO TALKS TO ALICIA PIVARO 
Tuesday 8 July
8.30pm on BBC Four (digital TV); repeated 12.50am
One of the most celebrated architects of modern times,
Renzo Piano talks to RIBA's Alicia Pivaro about his
controversial proposal to build a skyscraper above
London Bridge Station. He also looks back on the high
points of his career, including the Pompidou Centre,
Japan's Kensai airport terminal and the redevelopment
of Turin's Lingotto Fiat factory.

100 UNION STREET DEVELOPMENT PLANS - RESIDENTS MEETING
Thursday 10 July 
7.15pm-9pm at the Welsh Chapel, Southwark Bridge Road
A new application has been submitted for 100 Union
Street for 73 residential units, business space and 8
live/work spaces with associated parking. Waterloo and
Southwark Church Comissioners Residents Association
hope to get hold of a copy of the plans and discuss
them at a residents meeting - all local residents
welcome.
 

TREES FOR LONDON 10th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
Friday 11 July
The environmental charity is holding its 10th
anniversary celebrations in SE1 on Friday 11 July. The
day includes an invite-only corporate event at London's
Living Room in City Hall and an afternoon picnic in the
park next to City Hall. Then, at 7.30pm, the charity
takes to the river on board the Dutch Master vessel,
for a boat party special featuring house DJs Rocky &
Diesel (X-Press 2) and Pete Heller. The boat returns at
midnight. Tickets, available in advance only, can be
bought online from the Trees for London website or by
phone from 020 587 1320, price just �15. The charity
has planted over 40,000 trees in the capital to date,
many in the SE1 area, including Blackfriars Road,
Waterloo Road, Elephant and Castle and at local
schools.

BUILDING BRIDGES EXHIBITION
Until Sunday 13 July
Daily 10am-10pm at the Royal Festival Hall, Waterloo
Foyer; free
To celebrate the official opening of the Golden Jubilee
Bridge, the Waterloo Foyer of the Royal Festival Hall
is hosting a free exhibition on Hungerford Bridge and
the new footbridges. Featuring images of artwork by
Matisse and Monet, as well as original photography,
technical drawing and archive prints, the exhibition
tells the story of the original footbridge by Isambard
Kingdon Brunel, the railway bridge that replaced it, as
well as showing how the new footbridges were
constructed. A scale model of the bridges is also on
display.

LONDON ARCHITECTURE AT BCONTEMPORARY
Until Friday 1 August
Weekdays 10am- 6pm at bcontemporary, The Studio, 71
Newcomen Street
This exhibition combines paintings of urban landscapes
by Christopher Farrell and prints of original drawings
from the Richard Rogers Partnership collection. It
highlights the contrast between the two mediums used to
capture London's Architecture - traditional drawing
versus painting inspired by photography and
computer-generated imagery.
