It was finally presented by the 'National' theatre as part of an experimental season in a production directed by Sir Peter Hall. The play is based upon an incident during the Second World War. The location was a hillside monastery in southern Poland. A number of Soviet Officers, captured by the retreating German army were left abandoned in a cell in the monastery. Two of the men survived by killing and eventually devouring their companions. Judgement is dramatic re-imagining of these events, told by one of the survivors. Gabriel Butler- Lewis, having graduated from RADA, takes the role of Captain Andrei Vukhov in this powerful descent into the dark heart of tragedy. Judgement also marks the British stage debut of polish director Justina Rolny.
