Details from Anna Robinson [email protected] DOWNINGS ROADS MOORINGS - PLANNING HEARING Wednesday 21 April 7pm at Millpond TRA Hall, 210A Jamaica Road SE16 Special meeting of Southwark's planning committee to consider the planning application submitted by the barge community for "continued use of the existing moorings at Downings Road for mixed-use purpose including residential, business, barge repair, live/work and for the berthing of vessels in the course of navigation and the use of asssociated tyre beds". The Save the Moorings campaign is calling on its supporters to turn out in force at the meeting. http://www.savethemoorings.org.uk SHAKESPEARE'S BIRTHDAY AT THE GLOBE AND THE ROSE Friday 23 April 9am-6pm at Shakespeare's Globe; admission free This special birthday party, organised in collaboration with the Mayor of London and Innovision Media, will offer members of the public free access to the Globe Theatre. Street artists and performers will entertain visitors in and around the Globe, celebrating the origins of theatre in 16th century England when acting companies performed on the streets and in the inns of London. For the first time, members of the public will have the opportunity to step out onto the Globe stage and see the theatre from the point of view of an actor. There will even be a chance to deliver a line of Shakespeare on the stage after receiving some helpful advice from a Globe actor. Guided tours will be available throughout the day, offering insights into the story of the first Globe and the working theatre of today. Meanwhile round the corner at the Rose Theatre in Park Street William Sutton will be performing a Sonnet Marathon, starting at 12 noon. http://www.shakespeares-globe.org http://www.rosetheatre.org.uk ST GEORGE'S DAY CELEBRATION AT ST GEORGE'S CATHEDRAL Friday 23 April 6pm at St George's RC Cathedral, Lambeth Road Solemn Mass and Vespers with St George relic carried in procession.
