NORTH LAMBETH PARISH FETE IN LAMBETH PALACE GARDENS
Saturday 26 June
2pm-5pm at Lambeth Palace Gardens (entry via garden
gate, facing the river); 3
Map: http://quicklink.se1direct.co.uk/?id=758
For nearly 60 years a garden party or fete has taken
place in the gardens of Lambeth Palace on the last
Saturday in June. It all began when Archbishop Temple
thought that local people needed cheering up in the
post-war years and he asked the people of St Mary's
Lambeth to organise a summer party in his back garden.
Stroll through the lovely gardens, listen to the
Southwark Wind Band and the Archbishop Sumner School
Steel Band, browse at the book stall, try your hand on
the sideshows and have your face painted, visit the
home produce, plants, china and glass, bric-a-brac and
other stalls... Enjoy hot dogs, ice cream and spicy hot
food or a cup of tea and a cake from the tea tent.
