LONDON BOMBINGS - BOOK OF CONDOLENCE AT CITY HALL The Mayor of London has announced that a book of condolence will be opened at City Hall at 1pm today. http://www.london.gov.uk COMMUNITY FILM CLUB: THE BLUE LAMP (with DIRK BOGARDE) Monday 11 July 7pm at Tate Modern (use level 2 cafe entrance); free for members Map: http://quicklink.se1direct.co.uk/?id=1030 The idea of a Community Film Club came out of discussions at Bankside Residents' Forum meetings. The Club will launch with films made in the Bankside area. As membership grows there will be opportunities to widen the choice of films. This month's film is The Blue Lamp (1949; 84 minutes) starring Dirk Bogarde and Jack Warner. Members will be entitled to free entry to all Film Club screenings, regular Film Club mailings and programme notes, an opportunity to discuss films over a drink with other local people and watch films in comfortable cinema conditions. Raman's bold and sensuous voice skilfully weaves the music of India with sounds from her Western upbringing. - At 2.30pm, artist Nicola Heindl holds an art master class, bringing characters alive for children. Nicola's figurative paintings appear on a range of CD covers of recordings of world music distributed by Putumayo World Music. - At 3pm, local school children will be playing the Royal Festival Hall's Gamelan. A Gamelan is a traditional Indonesian percussion ensemble consisting primarily of tuned gongs, metallophones and drums. - Fancy dress competition to win a �5 Foyles book token every hour. TURKISH FEST AT THE COIN STREET FESTIVAL Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 July 1pm-7pm each day at Bernie Spain Gardens, Upper Ground; free Map: http://quicklink.se1direct.co.uk/?id=734 The South Bank turns Turkish for the weekend with music line up combining the best of traditional and contemporary musicians from Turkey and the UK plus a riverside bazaar selling the best of Turkish cuisine and crafts. For the first time in London for Turkish Fest is the Ottoman mehter march. For centuries this music accompanied the marching Ottoman army into battle, its uplifting beat instilling the soldiers with strength and courage. Today this music featuring drum and zurna - an oboe-like woodwind instrument � is part of Turkish folk culture. The Children's Garden features a bouncy castle, candy floss, mini play area, Henna Tattoos and face painting. Over the two days there will be a number of fashion shows highlighting the latest designs - from Turkish leather from Karia to independently designed jackets and ladies wear. A collection of paintings and other artworks are shown and for sale by artists including Fadime Yildirim, Nevin Borazan and Dogan Ors. The South Bank riverside walkway is transformed into a Turkish Bazaar with stalls serving the best of Turkish food, drink, spices, music and crafts.
