COMMUNITY FILM CLUB: GREAT EXPECTATIONS (1946)
Monday 5 September

The second screening for Tate Modern's Community Film
Club. Members will be entitled to free entry to all
Film Club screenings, regular Film Club mailings and
programme notes, an opportunity to discuss films over a
drink with other local people and watch films in
comfortable cinema conditions. To become a member (it's

membership is primarily aimed at those living and
working in Southwark. This month's film is Great
Expectations (David Lean, 1946). The story of a young
man whose moral progress is shaped by two crucial
childhood experiences: the traumatic encounter with
Magwitch, an escaped convict, and his association with
the eccentric Miss Havisham and her protegee Estella. 


COMPOSTING, RECYCLING AND RE-USING EXTRAVAGANZA 
Tuesday 6 September

Activities for adults and children: make a musical
instrument, practice and perform a short play, make a
flower and a shopping, refreshments, displays,

BERMONDSEY SQUARE: HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT ITS FUTURE
Tuesday 6 September
7pm at South London Mission, 256 Bermondsey Street

The new Bermondsey Square that is created as part of
the proposed development will provide a new public
space to host markets (including the current antiques
market), community activities, film screenings, and
many other events. It will be a new outdoor place in
the heart of Bermondsey. How would you like to see the
square used? How can the design reflect this? Discuss
the possibilities and contribute your ideas about how
this space might look and feel. Metal, an arts-led
consultancy, is creating a design brief for the
developer, Urban Catalyst, and their funder, the Igloo
Regeneration Partnership.

COMMUNITY ART EVENT IN LEATHERMARKET GARDENS
Saturday 10 September 
1pm-5pm in Leathermarket Gardens

Harrell Fletcher and the Laura Batlett Gallery invite
the public to their local park, Leathermarket Gardens,
to join in an afternoon of activities led by local
experts. 12 individuals will each demonstrate for 15
minutes their particular skills over the course of the
afternoon. For example a fitness instructor, a dance
teacher and a sign language teacher will lead
activities and ask the public to follow. The event will
be filmed by the artist and form part of a solo
exhibition opening the following week.
