ARTS LONDON WINTER MARKET AT ELEPHANT & CASTLE
Monday 8 to Thursday 11 December
10am-6pm (Tue 12 noon-8pm) at Upper Street Gallery, London
College of Communication, Elephant & Castle
The Winter Market will see students and recent graduates of
University of the Arts London selling their arts and crafts.
Pick up some unusual items. Expect jewellery, clothes,
ceramics, cards and much more. Tuesday night will be a
festive evening with late night shopping, mince pies and
mulled wine.

HARRY POTTER & THE PRISONER OF AKZABAN: COMMUNITY FILM CLUB

CAROL-ATHON IN AID OF GLORIA BURGOS MEMORIAL BENCH
Tuesday 9 December
8am-4.30pm in Bermondsey Street
Join the all-day carol-athon in Bermondsey Street to raise
money for Gloria's Corner - a park bench and plaque in
memory of Goode Foods owner Gloria Burgos who was found
beaten to death in her shop in September.

Find out about Southwark's new Core Strategy document and
how it will affect the Bankside area at this drop-in
session. The Core Strategy will set out the vision for
future development in the borough and identify broad
locations for new development such as housing, shops, and

stage and screen including Nerys Hughes, Rita Tushingham and
Philip Jackson. There'll be an opportunity for you to join
in the singing of your favourite Christmas carols.

SOUTH BANK FORUM: CRIME, TATE MODERN, TOPOLSKI AND FIREWORKS
Thursday 11 December
7pm-9pm at Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre, 108 Stamford St
Regular quarterly public meeting convened by MPs Kate Hoey
and Simon Hughes. Alistair Sutherland, Lambeth Acting
Borough Commander, will update the Forum on the latest crime
and policing issues in the neighbourhood. Give your views on
the revised plans for extending Tate Modern. Topolski
Century: this epic painting, which tells the story of the
20th century, will soon be reopened to local residents.
Funds and volunteers are still needed, so find out more more
about how you can get involved. And find out about the plans
in place for this year's New Year's Eve fireworks event
including details on road closures, crowd management plans

BANKSIDE WINTER FESTIVAL - LANTERN PARADE & MUCH MORE
Friday 12 to Sunday 21 December
Mon-Wed 10am-7pm; Thu-Sat 10am-8pm; Sun 10am-6pm at Bankside

The winter market will be made up of 40-50 arts and crafts
stalls, selling those last minute stocking fillers including
handmade jewellery, fine ceramics, wooden Christmas crafts
and other decorations, leather goods and other beautiful
handcrafted accessories. 

* From Friday to Sunday SIBERIAN HUSKIES will be leading
sledding rides for children under 12 at 5 per ride and for
the over 12s who want to get up close to these beautiful
furry animals, you can have a "Hug a Husky" photo for 4.
There will also be several outlets selling festive food to
keep you warm and a main bar serving mulled wine and ale. 

* The festival opens with a LANTERN PARADE on Friday 12
December at 4.30pm. The parade will have three strands
starting at Bernie Spain Gardens, St Paul's Cathedral and
Southwark Cathedral, all congregating outside Tate Modern.
Families will be able to download instructions to make their
own lantern from www.visitbankside.com and join the parade. 

* On Saturday 13 December at 11am there will also be
celebratory PROCESSION OF TRADITIONAL THAMES CUTTERS on the
River Thames. Visitors should watch the boats from the best
vantage point on the Millennium Bridge.
