Renowned pyrotechnician Christophe Berthonneau will light up the sky around the London Eye to mark the start of 2009. Space is severely limited along the Thames to watch the fireworks live. For those able to able to get into the viewing areas, there will be specially mixed soundtrack from BBC Radio 1 as they wait for the fireworks at midnight. At 6pm Westminster Bridge, Victoria Embankment and approach roads leading onto it will close. At 8pm the rest of the affected area will close.
