BEATING THE BOUNDS OF ST HUGH'S PARISH
Saturday 25 April
Meet 2pm at St Hugh's, Crosby Row (entrance on Porlock St)
Artist Ana Laura Lopez de la Torre's exploration of the
Tabard Gardens Estate culminates with a live event organized
in collaboration with the parish priests of St Hugh's and St
George the Martyr churches. Come and help map the modern
boundary of St Hugh's parish. Traditional parish markers of
stones and crosses no longer exist so what should we use
today? Traditionally, young boys were 'bumped' roughly on
the markers to ensure they remembered the limits of their
territory. Though boys will be safe on this event, children
are invited to help 'beat' the boundary in a contemporary
re-enactment of a forgotten tradition. Finish 3pm at Hankey
Hall for refreshments and an exhibition of local children's
art work. Over February half term Ana Laura worked with
children through a week of intense activity, making
drawings, collage and paintings related to life on the
estate. The exhibition will be open till 6pm.
