Info & map: http://www.London-SE1.co.uk/whatson/event/6707 PUBLIC MEETING ON PROPOSED LICENSING SATURATION POLICY IN BOROUGH & BANKSIDE Monday 18 May 6.30pm at The Crypt, St George the Martyr, Borough High Street In March the council's licensing committee decided that there is sufficient evidence of late-night crime and disorder to consider the introduction of a saturation policy to help deal with the local cumulative impact in the Borough and Bankside area (see map). This would make it more difficult for businesses to gain licences to sell alcohol locally. A consultation period is open till 29 May; have your say at this meeting. Call 020 7525 5748 to reserve a place. NB - when the council held a public meeting on a similar proposed saturation policy in the Old Kent Road area not a single member of the public attended. BODYSPACEMOTIONTHINGS: CLIMB AND SLIDE AROUND TURBINE HALL Friday 22 to Monday 25 May Fri/Sat 10am-10pm; Sun/Mon 10am-6pm at Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, Bankside The Turbine Hall is taken over by a reconstruction of Robert Morris's seminal Tate installation. Visitors can navigate Bodyspacemotionthings by climbing, see-sawing and sliding around the huge interactive sculptures and objects including beams, tunnels, ramps and rollers. Taking over the lawns in front of Tate Modern, they will offer games, workshops, puppetry and storytelling to children of all ages and their families. The quirky, art-inspired activities will climax in a Maypole made of recycled materials. Better Bankside is working in partnership with Birkbeck, University of London to hold a number of early evening archaeological and historical walks and discussions focusing on the history and development of Bankside, from its roots as a Roman bridge head settlement onwards through to its pivotal role in the commercial and industrial life of London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Each session consists of a walk followed by a brief illustrated presentation in the Bankside Community Space together with an examination of relevant archaeological finds. It meets every Monday at the Millpond Tenants Hall, bang on the corner of Jamaica Road and Southwark Park Road, and just two minutes walk from Bermondsey tube station. Beginners receive instruction from an expert player and at the end of May there is the club's first chess championship, with modest prizes but the title of 'Bermondsey and Rotherhithe Chess Champion 2009' at stake.
