Between May and July, Southwark will host a team of twenty-four motivated young volunteers aged between 18-25, from Yemen, Morocco, Egypt, Netherlands, Bosnia and the UK. Working together to complete over 6,000 hours of voluntary work and help the local community, the team from Global Xchange will have spent three months volunteering in Egypt before their arrival south of the river. The joint partnership between VSO and the British Council gives young people the opportunity to really make a difference in a developing country as well as a UK community. This will be the third year the youth volunteering scheme has visited Southwark. Southwark Programme Supervisor Georgina Richards is urgently looking for host homes for the volunteers during their stay: "If you have a spare room and would like to be part of this exciting international experience, please do get in touch. We ensure the experience is as hassle free as possible and we help by offering a financial contribution of 100 per week towards food costs of housing a pair of volunteers."
