A public consultation on the outline designs for the new
Elephant & Castle Leisure Centre (with swimming pool) and
associated mixed-use tower of 30 to 40 storeys alongside

LORRIES FOR SAVVY CYCLISTS WITH BETTER BANKSIDE

Cyclists will have the chance to sit in a lorry driver's cab
and see where they need to be in order to stay safe, have
their bikes looked over and security marked for free. There

THE BOROUGH BY MAPLIGHT - GUIDED WALK
Wednesday 18 January

Evening walk with old maps round The Borough led by Ken
Titmuss. Work your way across a former industrial landscape
of old warehouses, burial grounds and sweeping railway
arches. Close by some excellent examples of Octavia Hill
housing, you will come across the old St Saviour's
Workhouse, though there is nothing there to tell us that,
except the maps we work from. Trace where the young Charles
Dickens lodged in Lant Street and using old maps identify
the location of both Marshalsea Prisons. Walk ends at the
only surviving galleried inn in London.

MELIOR STREET FILM SCREENING

As part of the Living Memory heritage project the Coin
Street neighbourhood film club is screening Charlotte
Ginsborg's film all about a small SE1 street close to London
Bridge. The film was shot entirely in Melior Street over a
two year period and features eight people who are connected
to the street in a variety of ways. It is a musical
documentary and was commissioned and funded by Film London.
It investigates individuals complex relationship to
community, belonging and transience within contemporary
