DRAGON CAFE
Monday 17 February
12pm-8.30pm at St George the Martyr Crypt, Borough High
Street; free
A weekly open creative space for all - with an emphasis on
those going through mental illness and recovery - returns
for a second year. Founded by the Mental Fight Club, the
Dragon Cafe first ran for 12 months from October 2012 with
support from the Maudsley Charity and the Big Lottery Fund.
Now the Monday programme will resume for another year in the
crypt of St George the Martyr Church with the backing of
Guy's and St Thomas' Charity. Open every Monday from 12 noon
to 8.30pm, the Dragon Cafe provides a safe, stimulating and
creative space for more than 200 people each week. The
programme includes art exhibitions, freshly prepared and
reasonably priced vegetarian food, a chill-out zone and
more. Daytime groups include writing, art, tai chi, boxing,
mindfulness, gardening, dancing and singing. Evening events
range from performances, creative talks and discussions, to
dancing and games nights.

FAMILY FRIENDLY FASHION FUN

2pm-4pm at Garden Museum,  Lambeth Palace Road
Drop in and join in making fashion accessories. Using art
materials and cardboard you will create fun a headbands,
hats, jewellery and personalised clothes hangers to take
home - inspired by the museum's exhibition, Fashion &
Gardens. Suitable for accompanied children aged 4-11+.

BEN GARROD: SECRETS OF BONES
Wednesday 19 February
7pm at The Old King's Head, Kings Head Yard, 45-49 Borough
High Street; free; donations welcome
Primatologist, bone geek and TV presenter Ben Garrod is the
first speaker at PubSci's new venue. Ben�s passion for bones
has allowed him to make a name for himself as a skilled
articulator of skeletons for universities and museums. His
current academic research is focussed on the rate of
evolutionary adaptation of primates introduced to islands,
in an attempt to understand how populations respond to
environmental change. Ben will also talk about his new BBC
TV series Secrets of Bones.

WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF DICKENS

Join local musician and historian Nigel of Bermondsey on a
guided walk. Starting from John Harvard Library, the walk
will cover many of the sites familiar to Charles Dickens
when he lived in Southwark as a boy. It takes around 1 hour.
