MAY DAY IN SOUTH LONDON AND THE JACK IN THE GREEN
Monday 28 April
8pm-10.30pm  at The Miller, 96 Snowsfields; �3 (conc �2)
The first day of May has long been a time of riots, revelry,
ribaldry and the Jack-in-the-Green, a dancing leafy green
giant once seen all over London and revived in Deptford
thirty years ago this year by the Fowlers Troop. Come hear
of London customs and celebrations and protest from Sarah
Crofts of the Fowlers Troop, Dave Aylward of Fowlers Troop
and Blurt and Neil Transpontine, south London blogger and
historian. It will be a night with talks and film that will
include chimney-sweep celebrations, possible neo-paganism,
anarchists and the story of David Bowie and the Bromley May
Queens.

STREETS OF SPAIN

12 noon-6pm at Festival Village, Queen Elizabeth Hall,
Southbank Centre,  Belvedere Road; free
Stalls from Barcelona's world famous La Boqueri food market
will be at Southbank Centre, along with Campo Viejo's pop-up
bars.

MALAYSIA KITCHEN SPRING MARKET
Saturday 3 to Sunday 4 May
10am-7pm at South Bank Observation Point, near Gabriel's
Wharf, Upper Ground; free
12 Malaysian restaurants from across the UK gather to
showcase the very best in Malaysian cuisine, selling
everything from Beef Rendang and Chicken Satay through to
delicious Laksa. There will also be an opportunity to
purchase Malaysian ingredients to recreate authentic dishes
at home.

DAYS OF POLAND
Sunday 4 May
1pm-8pm  at Potters Fields Park,  Tooley Street; free
Family friendly festival featuring traditional and
contemporary Polish music, arts and cuisine. The programme
includes a variety of attractions for children and adults,
including face painting, giant bubble shows, Polish national
dances and live music including prominent Polish musicians.
