From 1922 to 1977 Clubland was a haven and an inspiration for young people and 'JB' or 'Jimmy' Butterworth was its centre. Mary will look at his life and work and will also show 'Loyalty and Service', a film exploring Butterworth and the club's life and times. Info & map: http://www.London-SE1.co.uk/whatson/event/18024 MAKE, DO & MEND YOURSELF: BEE DAY Thursday 25 August 12pm-3pm at Leake Street Pocket Park, Lower Marsh; free Bee Day - honey tasting, bee hive demo - highlighting the importance of bees surviving in our environment and promoting the health benefits of eating honey. This is a demonstrative session, so this particular workshop doesn't involve any 'Making'. Instead, participants can drop by for the chance to see a mini hive and meet Bee Keeper Dale Gibson and his wife, who will deliver the Honey Tasting part of the workshop. Dale has a hive on top of the Hilton London Bankside and is producing Bermondsey Street Honey at the moment. There will be games, face painting, music, arts and crafts, food, hot and cold drinks, dancing, balloons and a raffle. This is the second Go Spike Big Weekend following a hugely successful bank holiday weekend of volleyball in May, which saw more than 1,800 people give the sport a go nationwide.
