HOURBANK STROLLING GROUP IN BOROUGH
Thursday 4 May
12.30pm at John Harvard Library, 211 Borough High Street;
free
Are you interested in getting some free, gentle exercise
with a small, friendly group of people? HOurbank's next
stroll is a circular walk up to London Bridge, through Hay's
Galleria, along the river towards Tate Modern and then back
along quieter streets. The walk will last approx. 45 mins at
an easy pace with minimum steps and road crossings. One of
the HOurBank members who has been trained by Walk for
Health, The Ramblers , leads most of the walks.

LONDON CRAFT WEEK OPEN HOUSE EVENING: VESTMENTS AND ALTAR
FRONTALS
Thursday 4 May
7pm-9pm  at Southwark Cathedral,  London Bridge; free
A display of some of the cathedral's most important and
beautiful embroidery including the Jubilee Copes, Bishop
Talbot's Vestments from 1905 and the Comper Gold. The
Cathedral Broderers will be on hand to talk to visitors
about the work they do for the Dean and Chapter and how they
ensure these textiles are maintained.

WRITING FOR WELLBEING: EXPLORING THE SELF & EXPLORING
COMMUNITY
Thursdays 4 & 18 May
7.30pm at Hub Coffee Ho, Oasis Centre, 1 Kennington Road;

Looking for inspiration? Seeking to improve your writing,
and grow in confidence? Want to try something new?  Two
creative writing workshops (4 and 18 May), where you will be
encouraged to explore yourself as an individual, and your
connection to others and the community around you. You will
do some free writing and warm-up games, look at published
poems about the self and community, and respond to them with
some quick and simple writing exercises. Be ready to explore
your own personal trajectory in life and your connection to
others. You will surprise yourself with knowledge you didn't
know you had. Bring a pen and paper, an open mind and a
playful attitude. Workshops will be led by Jon Sayers, a
local poet, playwright, teacher and workshop leader,
advertising copywriter and creative director. For more

LAMBETH PALACE GARDEN OPEN DAY
Friday 5 May
12pm-3pm  at Lambeth Palace,  Lambeth Palace Road; £5
(proceeds to charity)
Second of this year's monthly open days at SE1's largest
private garden. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be
available to purchase, together with plants from the garden,
Lambeth Palace honey and souvenirs. This month's admission
fees will go to Change Up @ Kennington Cross, who work with
young people in North Lambeth Parish.

A CONCERT WITH FRIAR ALESSANDRO: VOICE FROM ASSISI
Saturday 6 May
7.45pm at St George's Cathedral,  Lambeth Road; free;

Friar Alessandro Brustenghi is a Franciscan Friar from
Assisi and acclaimed international tenor. His three CDs,
entitled 'Voice from Assisi', 'Voice of Joy' and 'Voice of
Peace' have been heard throughout the world. In recent years
he has performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London in a
programme that was recorded for the BBC. Only in March this
year "Voice from Assisi" was heard across America in a PBS
special screening. His visit to St George's Cathedral
precedes a tour in America. The musical director and
pianist, Justin Harmer will support Friar Alessandro's
performance and that of the supporting act, the soloist Jay
Britton. A collection will be taken during this concert, and
the proceeds will be shared by the CAFOD East Africa Crisis
Appeal and Caritas Bakihta House supporting women who have
escaped human trafficking.
