QUEEN OF HEARTS TEA PARTY - MERGE BANKSIDE @ BOROUGH MARKET
Monday 15 May
4pm at Market Hall, Borough Market, 8 Southwark Street; free
Opera Holland Park will be bringing their magical production
of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, with a special
performance in the Market Hall, as part of MERGE Festival.
Children and families are welcome to come along to the
Market Hall at 4pm to meet the Queen of Hearts at a Mad
Hatter's style party. With a special rendition of Rollin'
and and interactive performance from the show's key
characters this is the perfect opportunity to get up close
and personal with childhood favourites, in a style which
might be new for some. Following this, characters from the
show will be popping up in unusual places around Borough
Market and Bankside, giving people a taster of the full
production which will be taking place in Holland Park this
July.

BERMONDSEY & OLD SOUTHWARK GENERAL ELECTION HUSTINGS

June? What will their vision be for the constituency? The
hustings will be hosted by Canon Stephen Hance of Southwark
Cathedral with Amir Eden, chair of Bankside Residents'

full name. The parliamentary candidates from the Labour
Party, Liberal Democrats, Conservative Party, Green Party
and UKIP have all been invited to the hustings. If you can't

SLAPSTICK SPORTS DAY
Wednesday 17 May
12.30pm-2pm  at Stoney Street, Borough Market; free
A MERGE Bankside event. A revival of the historic market
sports day, paying homage to legendary patron and local
character, Charlie Chaplin. Teams of four can sign up to
take part in a cabbage holding contest, race with loaves of
bread balanced on their heads or try their hand at the
classic egg and spoon competition. Compered by glamorous
assistants and a Chaplin lookalike on hand, of course.

as this interactive piece injects a little fun into the
working day. Drawing on historical characters from the area,

of the computer Charles Babbage, prepare to be entertained -
there's even a silent disco opposite Southwark station.

PRESENTING: YOUNG POETS

An evening celebrating Young Poets in our community,
presented by Harry Baker. Harry is a local poet, and his
performances take him all around the UK and internationally,
with a unique blend of huge talent in both poetry and
mathematics. He holds the titles for World Poetry Slam
Champion. 2010 London Slam Champion, 2011 UK and European

present the life, works and objects of Edward Lovett,
collector of superstitions both weird and wonderful. The
